Martha Pigott, Executive Director
Martha received her BA in Public Policy from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2006. She left for Malawi, Africa with the United States Peace Corps in May of 2007 and returned in July of 2009. Her older brother Dave, surprised her with the establishment of The Brick Foundation to help her reach her goal of raising $17,000 for a Youth Center in her local village. Upon returning to the US, they decided The Brick Foundation should be continued to help other volunteers as well. Martha is currently pursuing her MA in International Development from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. Through her classes, she was able to meet other dedicated students interested in working with The Brick Foundation and thus, the Board was formed. She is ready and eager to be working on this wonderful project together!
Being surprised by my brother with “The Brick Foundation” was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. His dedication to helping his sister has motivated us to help other Peace Corps Volunteers in the same way. We value the commitment to their communities and strive to see their cooperative success.
David Pigott, Founder
David graduated from West Point with a BS in Systems Engineering before deploying to Iraq with the United States Army in 2004 and again in 2006. He returned to the United States just in time to see his little sister ship off to Malawi, Africa for a two year hitch in the Peace Corps. For their collective service, David and Martha have earned the nicknames “War and Peace” from their parents. Martha began and completed a series of outstanding projects in her local village, but her vision of a $17,000 Youth Center seemed out of reach. Martha’s vision inspired Dave to found The Brick Foundation and raise the money she needed to bring her vision into reality. Dave turned control of The Brick Foundation over to Martha upon her return, but still likes to help out wherever he can.
